This is an introduction to environmentally focused nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum.

At Asahi Heat Treatment Industry Co., Ltd., we conduct environmentally conscious nitriding treatment using plasma energy in a vacuum. When a direct current voltage is applied between the furnace wall and the workpiece in the vacuum furnace, glow discharge occurs. Hydrogen and gas are used as reaction gases to initiate the glow discharge. When nitrogen gas is introduced as the nitriding reaction gas into the excited plasma, nitrogen atoms are similarly excited and converted into N+ ions. These N+ ions are charged on the surface of the workpiece, allowing activated nitrogen elements to diffuse and harden the surface.
